RE: RVing with Direct TV satalite system

I use my rooftop tv antenna for the local stations that are nearby wherever I'm at. Now that I have HDTV convertor box if you get an over the air signal the reception is better than DTV.
Like others I have used DTV since 1996 and have never had a problem. I have the DTVHD receivers at home, but am sticking to my old regular DTV receivers for the RV. This old receiver is so much easier to use when setting up the sat dish. I don't know how anyone could set up that DTVHD antenna on a regular basis when traveling in their RV.

RE: Closing truck plant

I read that a GM line worker is paid $78 per hour. I was shocked. I never realized that their wages were so inflated The financial crises we are in now was not directly precipitated by automobile manufacturing. But, it is time that the American worker wake up and fight for their jobs by lowering their wage expectations. No wonder you hear that great sucking noise of manufacturing being pulled south.

RE: Converter Box

Your convertor box will work when hooked up to your amplified output. At least mine does. It works great.

RE: Campgrounds near Washington D,C.

We go to the Washington area about once a year and always stay at the Patapsco State Park. It is not as close as Cherry Hill, but better priced and in a great woodsie setting. Itis about 30 minutes north of Washington DC downtown during non rush hours.
Read about Patapsco here:

RE: Directv Election Night Coverage

I'm so tired of this strung out election I am going to have my local TV channels off and Directv tuned to movies. I'll see the results on Wednesday and won't be all bleary eyed.

RE: Furnace Maintenance

As they say, "If it works, don't fix it". Thats my furnace maintenance policy. I had once instance where it didn't work. I pulled the furnace out (I had a devil of a time getting all the heat ducts disconnected and reconnected.) and carried it to an RV guy. He replaced the sail switch. But, outside of that my furnace has worked for seven years now. I just checked it to see that it was working this morning as I'm planning my annual fall trip to the midwest and I'm sure that I will need it.

RE: jacking

I agree that the best jack point is on the flat plate that holds the axle to the springs. Much less stress on the frame and no danger to the axle.
Some fiver frames are what would be called a box frame. They are made of fairly thin metal plate and hollow in the middle. A bottle jack's round top could put small dents in these frames and cause stress risers, which may lead to stress cracks emanating from where the frame was jacked.

RE: Problems with this Site!

It is very disconcerting to spend time writing a reply to help solve someone's problem. Then, after proof reading and rewriting to get my reply legible and what, I consider, understandable I hit the post message button. Then nothing happens the little "how goes it" thermometer bars at the bottom of the web page stops moving after a couple of bars are shown. After what seems an eternity the screen goes blank and I can't even hit the back button to start over. This has happened to me more than once. What gives? I hope it doesn't happen when I go to post this.

RE: We have a tripod mounted Dish 500 with Dual LNB

With you dual LNB you can run two receivers. Hook up one of your receivers to the black and if you have another receiver hook it up to the grey cable or vice versa. If you only have one receiver just cap off one of the cables to keep the moisture out.

RE: broken window

I have replaced two of my big living room windows because of vandalism. They are very easy to remove and replace. You can order a new Hehr window for your rig from Buccaneer Mfg. Their web site is
http://www.buccaneermfg.com/
You will have to know the size of your opening. Take out the old window by removing the frame and then you can measure the size of the opening.
To remove the window, you have to unscrew the attaching bezel from the inside. Once the bezel is removed, run a putty knife under the inside of the outside frame. It will come right out. Most windows are sealed by plain old automobile rubber weather stripping.
It will cost you about $400 for the window and shipping. It will come in a heavy wood frame.
Good Luck.

RE: Satellite Receiver

My mistake again. I can't watch the world series and write here. You don't need dual lnb's you need and lnb with a dual output. Now I hope I don't have to correct myself again.

RE: Satellite Receiver

OPPS! You are correct in you have to have dual lnb's. I forgot that little detail. Forget what I said in my post. That won't work as you will have to have an input from a second outlet on your LNB. Shows me to think twice before offering advice.

RE: Satellite Receiver

This will work if you have an over the air signal booster near your living room TV.
Put a splitter on your satellite coax cable leading to your living room sat receiver. The connect two coaxs to this splitters outout. Then open up your over the air tv booster, which is usually found right near the location of you living room TV. Remove the coax connector from the booster that is attached to the coax going to your bedroom.
Then from your splitter run one coax to your living room sat reciever. And, the other coax coming from the splitter to that bedroom coax you found in your amplifier.
You will then have a sat signal in the living room and bedroom, but you will have to use rabbit ears to get over the air broadcasts.

RE: Awning Question

Yes to all of your questions.
It sounds like both your springs broke. You have a left and right spring. The end caps on your support arms are part of the spring system so you have to get the caps off to pull the old springs out.
You did not mention the brand name of your awning. Odds are good that is a carefree of Colorado. If it is a Carefree. here is their web site support address: http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/customer_support.asp
In any event, the maker of your awning can tell you what springs you will need to replace the broken ones and they will have the information on replacing your spring.
The biggest danger in replacing a spring is when you take the cap off and it unwinds. You have to have a good grip on the cap with a pair of vice grips. But, since yours springs are probably broke they will already be unwound.
The new spring comes complete with a new end cap. You insert the spring into the tube and then wind up the spring by turning the cap with your vice grips. Don't let it get away from you when you are winding. Once it is properly wound you fit the end cap back on the support arm and attach it with whatever holds the cap in place.
The maker of your awning will be able to tell you how many turns you need on the spring to properly tension it. They use a formula that takes in spring size and awning length.

The old tried and true mechanical opening valve is more reliable and not a all difficult to perform. You just pull the handle.

RE: Help- Furnace will not ignite on DC!!

Your furnace runs completely on DC so all starting the AC generator would do, as I see it, is cause the AC battery charger to up the DC voltage. Therefore I agree with the low DC voltage theory of the writer above. You either have a bad battery wire connection or a bad battery.

RE: Colorado to Florida

I have pulled my fiver from Tampa to Nebraska and back at this time of year for many years now. The route you mentioned going thru St Louis, Nashville and Atlanta is my preferred route as it is the quickest route with the better roads. I only take the route south thru Texas when I want to quickly escape Nebraska's mid December freezing weather. The roads from Nebraska to Tampa thru Texas are not quite as good.
I think you should look at the weather before you leave and you can make a wise decision as to which route to take. The weather usually comes in waves from Northwest to Southeast. Many times I plan my trip to go between bad weather waves.
